Sellicks Beach: Beautiful Scenery of Silver Sand

We do not like to stay home on the weekend, especially if the day is warm and windless.  So this Saturday we decided to make a short trip around Adelaide, no more than 60 kms away from home.

Alex has prepared a surprise for us  - a small Chinese temple complex on the beach, but when we got there, the site has been already closed off to the public. Of course, it was disappointing, but we now know the hours of work and next time we will go there at the right time and then will please you with interesting story and pictures.

So this time we drove a little back and pulled off the asphalt road to the sand of  Sellicks Beach. Тhe empty beaches, where you can get directly on the vehicle is our passion. (However, in hot weather on these beaches you can feel that you are bathing right on the car park.)

This time we were lucky as there were just a few people and cars, so we could admire the wild beautiful scenery, left to us from the Ice Age almost by ourselves.

Sellicks Beach - one of the many beaches of the unique and diverse coastline of the City of Onkaparinga (SA). The total length of this coastline is about 31 km. It includes unique open beaches, reefs, dunes and cliffs.

Sellicks Beach is surrounded by natural sand dunes. These dunes is a home to many plants, animals and birds, which suffer from a very close neighborhood with people, and therefore need of protection and support. Sand dunes of Sellicks Beach has a unique natural protection from erosion - pebble banks, that we have not seen before anywhere else.

Nature of Sellicks Beach is under protection. It is forbidden to drive or walk through the dunes, and even move or take beautiful pebbles that cover the slopes of the dunes. It has become a serious challenge for our children, because all kids are so fond of playing with pebbles...

There is a special Beach Patrol, which monitors compliance with the order on the shore.  One of their vehicles, we met that day at the beach. As we learned later, in the period from December to March, the vehicle access to the beach is paid. The cost  is $6 dollars that are paid at the entrance. However, the residents of the district are able to obtain a special pass that allows entry to the beach free of charge. So we were lucky to visit here on one of the last free days at this season.
