Roadhouse in Hay: the Best Hamburgers on the Way

What happened next?  Next there were the endless roads of New South Wales and a sad entertainment - counting the corpses of kangaroos and cats along the way. If the situation with the kangaroo was more or less clear, another question remained: where were these poor cats coming from, if there were tens of kilometers to the nearest villages? We came to the conclusion that, apparently, there were some wild felines. However, they looked exactly the same as our pet cat left at home.

There were no overtaking lanes again, but lots of barely crawling vehicles. The road winded like a mad rabbit, so before the each time we overtook we had to look around carefully, because the car behind the trees on the right, which seemed to be moving perpendicular to our course, in fact, could be an oncoming car. Thank God, that all these bends of the road could be quite accurately predicted by GPS.

On the right and the left of the road there was beautiful scenery. Natalia did not hold any longer and began taking pictures right through the window. Immediately it became clear that it was time to wash the windows ... In the fields behind the fences we saw alpacas and emus. We passed by a strange field covered with large white unknown flowers. On closer inspection it turned out to be already quite mature cotton. No one of us had seen it before in the field, but on pictures only!

We decided to stop for lunch in a small town Hay. Alex remembered this place quite well, since he spent the night there right at the petrol station among the interstate trucks, when he went from Sydney to Adelaide with our just purchased at the time car. The cafe at the petrol station was very comfortable. We ordered hamburgers and while waiting for the food, tried on all the hats in the shop. After all, the Australian fashion is very mysterious, especially when it comes to winter clothes.

When they brought our desired hamburgers "with the lot", at first we were confused by their size and beauty ... There were great multilevel constructions with juicy burgers, fried eggs, slices of pineapple and pickled beet-roots, cheese, onion and fried bacon, which we were so sorry to destroy ... But we rallied together, and ate them all with a mountain of chips, washing down by a thermos of tea.

And now - a bit of advertising from the heart. In our humble expert judgment, there were the best hamburgers on the way from Adelaide to Sydney. If you happen to drive this route, stop in a small cafe at the petrol station Caltex (429-431 Moama St, Hay South NSW 2711) and let your stomachs to enjoy this quality food!

  1. Вы прям воплощенная загадка :)
Австралийский хлопок жидковат малость, а гамбургеры - весьма аппетитны!
Имхо, индустриальная тема не так интересна как природа. Но это только для меня:)
